It appears the most important talk arising from Day 1 of the G8 summit is that Harper was nicely colour coordinated with his wife. Apparently it is significant (to the Globe and Mail) that only the Harper couple and the pants Vladimir Putin's wife was wearing were worth of media comment. "Stylish" and "elegant" they called our esteemed leader.
Maybe we can cut a trade deal... Harper and his wife for a dozen cases of Russian vodka?

Date: 2006-07-17 04:32 pm (UTC)It's been a feminist sore point that women politicians are always judged by their clothing i.e. "Belinda Stronach appeared today to address the CAW dressed in a royal blue suit and matching shoes", but you never hear things like "Stockwell Day held a press conference today to address his appointment as Minister of Public Safety dressed in a gray tweed pantsuit."
I'm all about equality, so while I would rather the media avoid the fashion critique of the women and focus on the issues, I will accept the men getting slammed with fashion critiques too.
