I see the clever boffins forgot their ear protection in a confined space. Never a good sign - but much fun to be had in such experiments.

*shrugs*

Which, sadly, I did do a lot of at home with an electrolysis rig, dawn dish detergent, and patience.

O hai! I've done that with methane, thereby securing my reputation in my dorm. Instead of foam, I was making big individual bubbles with a kitchen funnel dipped into dish soap in water. The other end of the funnel being, of course, attached via rubber hose to the gas stove.

Where hydrogen goes "BANG!!", methane goes "whuff!" and has deep, dark red flames. V. pretty.

I'll note that (at first "glance" at least) the hydrogen/oxygen mix should be easier to generate than the hydrogen alone.
