Greatest enigma of our time: How do scientists write such boring stuff?

Heh! Ever wonder why academic papers are so boring? Apparently, almost 90% of all scientific papers are never cited. "If your article isn't read or cited, it can't be criticized or refuted, but you can still list it on your CV. And the longer your list of publications, the better your prospects."

It also makes an interesting point. The goal of papers seems to have become to get published, not to be read.
