A group at the Korean Institute of Technology have developed a method for converting seaweed to bioethanol. Seaweed grows fast enough to be harvested up to 6 times each year and absorbs 7 times as much carbon as wood. The approach would provide a way to generate bioethanol that doesn't use a food product as a fuel source.
