The instrument at the left is converting a candle flame into electricity which is then used to power an LED that shines brighter than the candle. The reason is that most of the energy emitted by the candle is in the form of heat, whereas the LED emits most of its energy as light. As a result, even harvesting a power of the candle's energy emission results in greater optical output. The company that created this demo is illustrating the next generation in waste heat treatment in which this energy is efficiently converted into electricity. |
