Hairdresser doesn't get big payout for finding flies in water bottle - The long and the short of it is a Canadian hairdresser was, in 2005, awarded more than $340,000(Can) as a result of "mental anquish" from finding a fly in bottled water. The Supreme Court decided in a unanimous decision that any reasonable person could not have foreseen that  seeing flies in bottled water would lead to psychological damage. Video game control requires steady stream - Two men in Belgium have developed a video game that is controlled by hitting sensors in a urinal. Yes, this game is meant to be played while a guy is standing at a urinal. Apparently they came up with the game while drinking beer. Who'd have guessed? Found on Slashdot.

1 billion colour display to be built - by a partnership between Hewlett-Packard and Dreamworks Animation. 16 million colours may be fine for the home user, but those working in art and animation need to be able to work with more accurate and consist colours. Lasers used to melt away chip defects - Princeton University researchers have developed a method for reducing the incidence of chip defects by using lasers to melt the defects and guiding the molten material so that it assume the desired shape when it solidifies. As chip sizes decrease, the number of defects tends to increase so reducing the incidence of chip defects should increase the overall quality of the chips produced. Found on Slashdot.
