An IT worker in Warsaw calculated that the letter he received on January 3rd, having been sent on December 20th, would have arrived faster if it had been delivered by a snail. The snail's speed was calculated to be 0.048 kilometres per hour and was from the paper "Sluggish Data transport is Faster than ADSL", featured in Improbably Research (where this story came from).

Never mind the speed of a swallow, now you know the speed of a snail... or at least you know to ask if it is African or European (the quoted speed for an unladen African Giant Snail).

I think the British rail network could learn a thing or 7 from sluggish data transport!

I'll have to take your word on that. I've not yet been to Britain.

I'm amused

Someone had calculated that messenger pigeons ferrying flash drives would carry data faster than most highspeed internet connections currently available.
