A training manual produced by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs now lists the US alongside countries such as Egypt, Iran, China, Israel, Afghanistan, and Syria as a country that could potentially use torture on its prisoners. The manual was produced for Canadian diplomats as part of a "torture awareness workshop".

Yes, brings a tear to the eye don't it.

At least with an election on the way there is a vague chance of the US government changing direction.

When I read this I thought of an article (that I can't find at the moment because I'm about to head out the door) in which someone decided to try self-induced water-boarding (an interogation technique apparently used by the US) to determine if it was torture. They concluded that there was no doubt it was. If I find it I'll post the link for you. Very interesting read.

That's an unexpected admission from Mr. Straightdope. I applaud it.

Having hadthe misfortune to hear Kenny Rodgers and witness line dancing, I think this torturos label was a little late in coming.
