A question I would never have thought to ask is "why don't pregnant women fall over". The answer, it appears, is that humans have evolved wedge-shaped vertebrae int he lower back that allow women to maintain an upright posture even when carrying a growing child.

I just figured it was the 10lbs I put on my rear to help counterbalance the 20lbs on my front.

This explanation makes sense too.
