Ebook DRM provider goes dark, the books you paid for disappear - Boing BoingeBook provided Fictionwise had contracted with another company, Overdrive, to provide DRM. Under the arrangement, whenever people who had purchased an eBook from Fictionwise moved the eBook to new media, Overdrive would be contacted to verify the owner of the eBook. If everything checked out, the user would be allowed to use the eBook on the new media. Now, Overdrive is shutting down, leaving Fictionwise's customers with no way to verify their DRM-locked purchases should they decide to move to new media. Fictionwise, lacking the decryption keys, can do nothing for their customers.
