Canada to track NEOs - The Canadian Space Agency has announced that next year they will be launching a satellite to track Near Earth Objects (NEOs)  down to 1 kilometer in diameter, at a cost of just $10 million.  It will focus on tracking NEOs closer to the sun because they are are harder to see from Earth and are statistically more likely to strike Earth. Some astronomers, however, question the usefulness of this mission, stating that we are already able to detect most of the NEOs close to the Sun.

The Pheonix will be landing - on Mars this Sunday, after which it will begin to dig into the permafrost of the Martian arctic. Among other things, it will search for organics in the frozen water detect by a previous Mars probe still in orbit about the plant. The probe also features weather sensors contributed by the Canadian Space Agency.

Private space station celebrates anniversary - The inflatable space station Genesis I has been in space almost 3 years, recently completing its 10,000th orbit of the Earth. Meanwhile, the International Space Station will celebrate 10 years in space this year. Bigelow Aerospace plans to begin construction of a habitable inflatable space station in 2011.

Spray-on material stops bleeding instantly - A substance originally developed at MIT in the 90s has been found to stop bleeding quickly, thanks to amino acids that form long protein chains when exposed to a salty environment like blood. Found on grinding.be.
