Handheld device for wireless network penetration testing
A small handheld device that allows a security professional to
walk through cubicles and testing the wireless security of the system. The device automatically
attempts to penetrate the security of all wireless systems it encounteres. If it gets in, it downloads a sample from the device it has gained access to as a demonstration of the security hole.

"ANGELS on high inspect satellites
Based on the sucess of the recently-launched XSS-11 autonomously navigatable satellite, the US Air Force is preparing to build a series of small inspection satellites called Autonomous Nanosatellite Guardian Evaluating Local Space (ANGELS). These devices are launched into a companion orbit with another satellite and can be called up to inspect it if there is a problem. They hope that a similar system could be used to monitor the exterior of the space shuttle; however, another potential application is to jam or even damage another satellite.

The electro-magnetic gun program gets US$14.7 million
In July of this year, the Navy began work on a prototype 32-megaJoule railgun. The device can eject material at 8 times the speed of sound. They hope to later develop a 64-megaJoule version. In addition, the device is expected to allow far more projectiles to be launched at the target than conventional long-range artillery, 5000 rounds per ship versus today's 232. The device is expected to be deployed by 2019.

New Weapon System shoots around corners
The Corner Shot allows you to modify a handgun to shoot around a corner. It was released in 2003 and is now used by Elite forces around the world. A high resolution camera allows the shooter to see the target while remaining behind cover. A version called the Corner Shot 40 (shown here) launches gernades intead of bullets.

Smart gernade launcher
The XM25 prototype launches 25 mm rounds that explode at a precise distance from the gun rather than waiting to strike the target. The result, apparently, is a "500% increase in lethality". Lovely.... Technically speaking, the gun can be used to detonate a gernade just inside the entrance to a foxhole or doorwar, thus ensuring people immediately behind cover receive the full effects of the blast.

Jamming device disguised as Mobile Phone
In 2003 a device entered the (black) market that resembles a cell phone but, in fact, jams wireless transmissions to a radius of up to 15 metres. As expected, such devices are considered illegal in many countries.

Wireless PenCam
Released in 2003, this pen-like device can transmit a good-quality colour image to a received up to 100 metres away. It can be placed on a desk or worn in a pocket like a regular ball-point pen. It even works as a pen, so has been used to capture images while being used to signing documents.

How do you know when you are being bugged?
The Flora is a tiny device that detects RF signals between 3 MHz and 4 GHz. A green light indicates no "bugs (at least no RF transmissions) within 5 metres of the unit.

[EDIT: added some references, tried to fix images where possible. Gizmag appears to dynamically allocate image names so the image cannot be referred to directly through static HTML. Makes displaying the devices a bit more challenging.]
