A consortium of International companies are negotiating with the Canadian Space Agency to open a spaceport in Cape Breton by 2008 with orbital flights by 2010. Suborbital flights are expected to cost $250,000 each for a 15-minute ride. They plan to use a type of ethanol-powerd hypersonic glider called the Silver Dart, originally designed by the US military in 1962. Cape Breton was chosen because it is of a latitute well suited to accessing the International Space Agency, and has plenty of coastal space available on which to build.
