Female Brains More Valuable Than Males, Decrees Mother Nature

A recent study demonstrated that how male and female bodies respond to nutrient deprivation extends to neurons. Previous studies had shown that males tissue tends to conserve proteins while female tissue tends to conserve fat. The study subjected neurons taken from male and female rats to nutrient deprivation for up to 72 hours. Male neurons began to demonstrate more dysfunction after the first 24 hours, as well as visual evidence that the cells were breaking down their own components for fuel. Meanwhile female-derived neurons featured less dysfunction and focused on creating fat stores.
