Coffee drinkers have lower risk of death from heart disease - A recent study seems to indicate that regular drinkers of either caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee of either gender have a slightly lower risk of death from heart disease than non-drinkers. The results were most pronounced for women drinking 2 to 3 cups per day, exhibiting a 25% decrease in risk of death from heart disease.
Aching joints really do predict weather - A leading joint specialist in the US says there is a scientific explanation to back up claims that joint pain can predict storms. Joints contain baro-receptors that detect changes in atmospheric pressure and are particularly sensitive to the decrease in barometric pressure accompanying moist weather. People with arthritic conditions are more sensitive to these changes.
Brain similarities found between gay men and straight women - likewise between straight men and gay women. A Swedish study examined the neural structure and activity of the brains of self-identified homosexual and heterosexual men and women. They found that the of brain activity of straight people of one gender most closely resembled the brain activity of gay people of the opposite gender, and that homosexual men and straight women both have more neural connections between brain hemispheres, and those hemispheres are more symmetrical. The researchers state that this is strong evidence for the neurological underpinnings of sexual orientation.
