At the CES (Consumer Electronics Show), Steve Jobs announced that the long-fables iPhone would be in stores by June. Note, this is not the iPhone that Cicso announced a month ago. It appears that until Jobs mounted the stage, Cisco and Apple were attempting to nail down a deal. Cisco had forwarded a proposal to Apple and were only awaiting their signature. According to Cisco:
Given Apple's numerous requests for permission to use Cisco's iPhone trademark over the past several years and our extensive discussions with them recently, it is our belief that with their announcement today, Apple intends to agree to the final document and public statement that were distributed to them last night and that addressed a few remaining items. We expect to receive a signed agreement today.

As of the following day, Cisco had "...filed a lawsuit in Northern California to prevent Apple from infringing upon its registered iPhone trademark according to Engadget. Apple responded that the lawsuit was "silly and that the word "iPhone" is already a common industry term, much like the term "television".
