Photos

San Jose early morning from my hotel room, rendered as a high dynamic range image in GIMP 2.4

Puss in Boots (or at least the box for them)

Are these yours??? WoW you are getting really good with that camera. I especially like the haunting quality of the fog shrouded farm house by the tree

Thank you. I took a lot of originals, but these were the only ones I could do anything with. Given they were almost black-and-white I just cranked up the contrast and fiddled with brightness until things looked "right" in my eyes. That and creative cropping.

Ooo... looks like lava in the streets.

Those fog shots cleaned up nicely. Are they all high dynamic range?

Love you. I'm going over to Corradus's tonight but I'll have my phone with me all day.

The fog shots (and Zoe) are not HDR. I just increased the contrast to make things look better.

I made your San Jose photo my background at work.

Despite my comments the cats have been quiet and mostly not whiny (I think, I may have sleep through it). I suspect that they are saving it all for you.

Love you.

I was lucky that the day of the fog was the same day I had a meeting with my supervisor so I had time to take a walk around the AgCan grounds before going to Carleton.

All work and no play makes Dd......

Afternoon greetings Dd,

Like the landscape - although does remind me slightly of 'the shining'.

"The Shining" is one movie I have not seen, not being a big horror fan. But I can see what you mean, having seen plenty of trailers and clips from the movie.

Thank you. I should be doing more photography next month because I will be taking a course in how make better use of the camera.

Actually, I just read this yesterday, but I've been in San Jose so haven't been doing tech posts.

Very interesting article, though. I could definitely see this being used for genetic tagging. I would also be interested to see how these bases affect an organism if they were added to different places in DNA.

I'm also wondering . . . how do I put this? The researchers came up with these by random generation.

Given that is how we got the "four genetic bases," I wonder . . . why four? Why not . . . six? Or eight?

Actually, I just read this yesterday,

Hmmmm. Foiled again. Maybe I need to go more eldritch.

For discussion on these questions I should hand you off to [livejournal.com profile] ancalagon_tb who did his Master's work on genetics. I'll drop him a line and see if he wants to take up the discussion. I would certainly like to see what his opinion is on the subject.
